Due to heavy rains, a landslide occurred near Pali Gad on the Yamunotri Highway late at night, due to which the road has been completely blocked. Due to this, long queues of vehicles have formed on both sides and devotees have to wait for hours. Hundreds of devotees who had set out on the pilgrimage to Yamunotri Dham are stranded on the way. Seeing the situation, the National Highway Department has immediately sent machinery to the spot and the work of removing the debris is going on, so that the road can be made operational as soon as possible.
Wide impact of rain is being seen
Wide impact of heavy rain is being seen in other parts of the state as well. The Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway has been closed near Sirohbagad, while the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund Highway is blocked near Sonprayag. Traffic has come to a standstill due to debris in Bhanerpani near Pipalkoti on the Badrinath route. At all three places, travelers are waiting for the weather to clear and the road to be restored.
Meteorological Department’s Alert
The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in Dehradun and Nainital districts, while an orange alert has been declared for Bageshwar. There is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning in other districts as well. The Meteorological Department has warned of lightning and rain in the entire state till July 3, due to which it has been advised to take extra caution in travel and local arrangements.
