To test the preparedness to deal with flood disaster in Uttarakhand, mock drills were conducted in five districts of the state – Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat and Dehradun. Many concerned agencies including Disaster Management Department, District Administration, SDRF, NDRF, Public Works Department (PWD) actively participated in this exercise. Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman from the State Emergency Operation Center inspected the drill and reviewed the arrangements.
Relief and rescue operations were tested
During the mock drill in Dehradun, relief and rescue operations were tested based on the hypothetical incident of a house collapsing in a flood situation. Dehradun SDM Hari Giri said that the district administration is ready for every possible threat of disaster, especially adequate arrangements have been made to deal with flood-like situations.
