The picture of primary and secondary education in Kumaon is extremely worrying. Hundreds of schools are struggling with the shortage of teachers. The situation is such that many schools are running on the basis of a single teacher. On one hand there is uproar over the cluster school system, on the other hand the ground reality of government schools is shocking. On investigating the shortage of teachers in Kumaon, it was found that more than five thousand posts of LTs and lecturers are vacant in all the six districts of the division. There is a huge shortage of teachers in all the districts. From primary junior schools to inter colleges, a large number of teachers are retiring every year. The number of teachers is continuously decreasing. At the same time, the Directorate of Education has not been successful in filling the vacant posts.

Disappointment among parents

Children living in villages have neither options nor resources. In such a situation, government schools are their only support. In the absence of teachers, both the education and future of children are in limbo. The low number of questions raised by students, unavailability of teachers and disappointment of parents, these three factors have brought many government schools to the brink of closure. From this, one can guess how the future of the country is being shaped in these government schools of Kumaon.
