The Delhi High Court has immediately restrained Patanjali Ayurveda from running an alleged derogatory advertisement against Dabur Chyawanprash. A single bench of Justice Mini Pushkarna issued an interim order while hearing a petition filed by Dabur. Dabur’s petition alleged that Patanjali’s “Special Chyawanprash” advertisement is trying to show not only their product but also all other brands of Chyawanprash as “ordinary” and “non-authentic”. The petitioner says that the advertisement claims that “no other manufacturer has the knowledge to make Chyawanprash”, which directly damages the reputation of other companies including Dabur.

Next hearing set for July 14

Advocates Jawahar Lala and Meghna Kumar, appearing for Dabur, argued that the claims made in Patanjali’s advertisement are not only misleading, but can also create misunderstanding among consumers about Ayurvedic medicines. The court has fixed the next hearing of the case on July 14. This is not the first time that Patanjali has come under the scanner of the court for misleading advertisements. In August 2022, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging that Patanjali was making false claims of treating other diseases including Covid.

Ramdev is not under anyone’s control

In November 2023, the Supreme Court had ordered Patanjali to stop misleading advertisements, but despite this the company continued to broadcast advertisements. In February 2024, the court took a tough stand and summoned Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna personally. After the warning of contempt in March-April, both of them finally filed an apology in 2025, after which the matter ended. Earlier also, the Delhi High Court had expressed strong displeasure over Baba Ramdev’s comment regarding ‘Sharbat Jihad’. Due to the controversial remarks made about the Sharbat of Hamdard Company, the court had directed him to avoid any such statement or video in future. The court had remarked that “Ramdev is not under anyone’s control and lives in his own world.”
