A major accident took place in Vadodara district of Gujarat on Tuesday, the Gambhira bridge built on the Mahisagar river connecting Vadodara and Anand district suddenly collapsed. This accident happened in Padra area. So far 13 people have been confirmed dead in the accident. At the same time, relief and rescue work is going on even 24 hours after the incident. However, on Wednesday morning, Vadodara Collector Anil Dhamelia reached the spot and took stock of the relief and rescue operations. Gujarat State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have reached the spot. With the help of divers, the work of searching for people trapped in the river is going on. At the same time, the local administration is also engaged in removing debris through machines and boats.

Investigation of the exact cause of the accident continues

Let us tell you that on Tuesday, many people and vehicles were passing together on the bridge, when suddenly a part of it broke and fell into the river. Many vehicles and people fell into the river. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated. NDRF’s 6th Battalion Commandant Surendra Singh said, “The tragic incident took place in Padra taluka of Gujarat. The district administration had sent a demand for an NDRF team. The team immediately reached the spot. When I reached the spot, I felt that one more team was needed, which was later deployed. Looking at the need, one more sub-team was also deployed. For the last 24 hours, we have been trying to pull out the vehicles, our divers have examined the bodies and pulled them out.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The loss of life due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district of Gujarat is extremely sad. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.”

Announcement of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased

Wishing the injured a speedy recovery. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The injured will be given Rs 50,000. Gujarat minister Rishikesh Patel said, the bridge was constructed in 1985. It was maintained from time to time. He said, the exact reason behind the incident will be investigated. In the pictures, the entire slab of the bridge between two pillars is seen missing. The approximately 900 meter long Gambhira bridge has 23 pillars. It is being told that this bridge was repaired only last year. In view of the increasing traffic on the bridge, the government had approved a new bridge three months ago at a cost of Rs 212 crore. The process of designing and tendering of this bridge has also been started.
