Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in many parts of Delhi-NCR and Haryana this morning. The earth kept shaking for about 10 seconds, due to which people came out of their homes and offices in panic. The epicenter of the earthquake was located near Jhajjar district of Haryana. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded about 10 km north of Jhajjar at 9:04 am. Tremors were felt twice in Jhajjar – the first at 9:07 and the second at 9:10. Tremors were felt in many cities of NCR including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh, Bhiwani. Local people told that they came out of their houses after the first tremor. However, no loss of life or property has been confirmed.

Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Bahadurgarh, said, “In the morning the bed suddenly started shaking. We got scared and came out immediately.” A person from Gurugram said, “We were having tea when we felt a strong tremor and everyone panicked and ran out of the building.”

As a precautionary measure, Delhi Metro trains were halted for 2-3 minutes. A passenger said, “The train stopped suddenly, but the tremor was not felt.” Delhi Police informed on social media that no damage was reported due to the earthquake. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted and wished for everyone’s safety.
