The government has started strict action against fake and substandard medicines in the state. The quick response teams of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) caught serious irregularities by conducting surprise raids on the establishments of nine drug sellers in Rishikesh and Haridwar.

Campaign for prevention of counterfeit medicines

Under the action, the purchase and sale of medicines at four Jan Aushadhi Kendras and another medical store was banned and their licenses were recommended to be cancelled, while two other establishments were temporarily closed. The quick response teams formed on the instructions of FDA Commissioner Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar are continuously running campaigns to prevent fake and sub-standard medicines across the state.

Explanation also sought on deficiencies

In the recent inspection, apart from Jan Aushadhi Kendras located in Jwalapur and Kankhal, serious irregularities were also found in Nepali Farm and nearby medical stores under Rishikesh area. Explanation has also been sought on the deficiencies found in the firms against which action was taken.
