Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has expressed deep concern over the ever-increasing prices of houses in the country. He alleged that now the poor are being deprived of not only resources but also the right to dream. Rahul Gandhi said that when even the richest 5% of the country are not able to save for more than a hundred years to buy a house in Mumbai, then the condition of the poor can be imagined. Targeting the central government, he asked who is this economic development for?
Buying a house is impossible for common people
Rahul Gandhi shared a media report on his WhatsApp channel and wrote that buying a house in a state like Maharashtra is becoming impossible for common people. Citing the report, he claimed that in cities like Mumbai, even the top 5 percent rich urban families of the country will have to save 30 percent of their income continuously for 109 years to buy a house. He said, “If even the richest cannot buy a house in 109 years, then the poor have been deprived of their right to dream. These are not just statistics, but an unbearable truth.”
For whom is the economy flourishing
Rahul said that most middle class and poor families do not inherit property but responsibilities – children’s education, treatment, care of parents and worry about a roof over their head. He said that even today the dream of “one day having a home of their own” is alive in the hearts of crores of Indians, but when that dream is 109 years away from reality, it is not only disappointing but also unjust. Rahul Gandhi quipped, “The next time someone talks to you about GDP, show him the reality of your household budget – only then will you be able to ask for whom this economy is flourishing.”
