Crops are getting damaged every year, while in the last one or two years, crops have suffered more damage than in the last few years. And the main reason for this has been termites. If we talk about Hamirpur and most of the surrounding areas, then termites are increasing day by day here. Along with crops and wood in houses, termites are now destroying trees and plants as well. Every year in India, crops, forest wealth, timber and storage worth crores of rupees are damaged due to termites. Dr. Virendra Rana, HOD of Entomology Department in Neri College, removed the termite mound in Neri College, which was about three feet below the soil. Its width was 3.8 feet and the length of the chimneys of the mound was about three feet. Scientists of the Entomology Department expelled the termite queen from the mound during the research.

One egg in one second

The queen termite expelled from the mound was 9.85 centimeters long. Its age was about three years, which is very young. Among the various species of termites, Microtermes Owaisi is mainly found in Himachal Pradesh. In the rainy season, termites are attracted to electric bulbs or any light in their breeding stage. At this time their breeding process starts. The queen termite only lays eggs. The queen termite lays one egg in a second and does the work of egg deposition for 5 to 25 years. It can reproduce during this time. A study has also been started on the life cycle of termites.

Termite cannot be destroyed completely

Dr. Rana said that if the termite infestation is high, then carefully dig the surrounding mound and destroy the queen termite. Apart from this, before or after sowing, Chlorpyrifos 20-EC can be sprayed in the soil at the amount of two to three liters per hectare or two-three milliliters per liter of water. However, termites cannot be destroyed completely. Apart from its disadvantages, it also has its advantages in nature, therefore integrated technology should be used to protect and conserve crops from damage. Wherever the effect of termites is high, chlorpyrifos can be sprayed in the fields. Use completely rotten manure and cow dung in the fields. Raw and unrotted cow dung manure increases the effect of termites in the fields.
