Manmohan Singh Death News. Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 on December 26, 2024, at 9:51 PM at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi. He had been suffering from age-related illnesses and respiratory problems.
AIIMS in Delhi released a statement saying that Dr. Singh lost consciousness at home on December 26, 2024. He was brought to the medical emergency at AIIMS at 8:06 PM, but despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM.
The President, Vice President, Prime Minister, and many other prominent leaders and personalities have expressed their condolences on his passing. The Government of India has canceled all scheduled programs for today (December 27) and declared a seven-day national mourning. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s funeral will be conducted with full state honors, expected to take place on Saturday (December 28).
Born in Punjab in 1932, Manmohan Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. He first took the oath as PM in 2004 after the Congress party’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections against the NDA led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He completed his second term from 2009 to 2014, after which PM Narendra Modi succeeded him. After 33 years of service, he retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.
His mortal remains have been brought to his residence, where people are gathering for the final viewing. One of his daughters is arriving from the USA, after which the funeral process will be completed. Dr. Manmohan Singh is considered the architect of India’s economic reforms. A national mourning has been declared in his honor.
